the "best" burgers the city of angels has to offer? we'll see about that. |
comme ci comme ça
from boulud’s db burger pedigree, exec chef michael david insists that the patty is charred on the outside and rosy pink from edge to edge. topped with a mayo-heavy lettuce/salad/slaw and cheese then served on a toasted bun, i def enjoyed the first bite of my über-undercooked burg, but my compatriots had little less than love for the french bistro burger.
unapologetic about flavoring, david understands the way to a meat-lover’s heart is a through a solid artery-clogging beefcake punch to the face. the first bite was a carnal you.meat.me.eat. meeting. after the initial hunger panes subsided, i inspected the inner-workings of the burger and was actually a tad bit grossed out by the texture of the uncooked center. i am all for carpacio, but this .. this was little .. out of that realm. were it not for the thumbs-down from everyone else at the table, i think maybe i would’ve enjoyed it a bit more. thought i’d be thrown off by the ‘slaw that comes on top, but it was actually *gasp!* the meat that had me wincing.
- burger: 3 out of 5 stars [this is my personal judgment. i think group consensus would prob bring it down a couple stars]
- fries: 4 out of 5 stars (more garlic aioli! .. might be starting to get sick of it tho)
overall thoughts: i want to love you, i do. but .. i just don’t think we’re right for each other. i’m sorry.
would i go back?
i still love the cocktail program @ this resto as well as other menu items outside of the burger. of course i’d go back!
